Newtown Church 150th Celebrations
June 2018
We celebrated the 150th anniversary of the present church building in Newtown in June this year. We are very grateful to the many people who offered items for our display of wedding dresses, christening robes, photographs etc connected to celebrations in our church. We displayed the wedding dresses on dressmaker’s mannequins and large dolls were used for the christening robes display.
Our weekend of celebration began on Saturday 16th June when the church was open from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. to allow people to come along and enjoy the displays and refreshments. On Sunday 17th June a special service of celebration was held in Newtown Church at 2 p.m. when we welcomed members past and present. The service was led by our Minister Rev Sheila Moir and our Assistant Minister Mrs Rachel Wilson with special guests Rt Rev Susan Brown, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland and Professor D Murray Campbell, Moderator of the Presbytery of Melrose and Peebles. The service was followed by a time of fellowship and hospitality and another chance to enjoy the celebration display.
